Stuck in a Texas— Solar Contract?

Your bill keeps going up. The savings you were promised never showed up. The salesperson made it sound simple. Now you’re locked into a 20- or 25-year agreement that no one can explain straight.

You’re not alone — and you may have more options than you think.

End My Solar (EMS) is a marketing and intake service, not a law firm. EMS does not provide legal advice. Documentation may be reviewed by Consumer Advocacy Law Group, a qualified law firm partner. Contacting EMS does not create an attorney-client relationship.

Is Your Contract With One of These Companies?

On April 6, 2026, the Texas Attorney General's office launched a formal investigation into four major residential solar companies operating in Texas:

Sunrun, Inc.

Freedom Forever, LLC

Filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy April 15, 2026

Lone Star Solar Services, LLC

CAM Solar, Inc.

Civil Investigative Demands were issued under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, focused on alleged misrepresentations about energy bill savings, system performance, and contract terms. More than 100 formal complaints have been filed with the AG's office against these four companies.

If your contract is with one of these companies — or any solar retailer — your documentation may be reviewed by a qualified law firm. Submit your information for a free intake.

Texas Homeowner Reports

Does This Sound Like Your Situation?

These are the most common patterns reported by Texas homeowners to the AG's office, the BBB, TDLR, and Texas news outlets:

01

Promised Savings Never Showed Up

The salesperson promised savings. Your bill went up, not down, after the panels were installed.

02

The System Isn't Working

Your panels stopped producing — and the installer won't return calls.

03

The Pitch Didn't Match Reality

They told you the panels would cover your whole bill. They don't.

04

Your Home Sale Is Stuck

You're trying to sell your home. Your buyer's lender won't take the contract.

05

Aggressive Sales Tactics

Hours at your kitchen table. Signing on an iPad you didn't fully read. Targeted at an elderly parent.

06

Installer or Lender in the News

Sunrun, Freedom Forever, Lone Star Solar Services, CAM Solar, GoodLeap, Mosaic, and Sunlight Financial.

If any of these describe your situation, your documentation may be reviewed by a qualified law firm to determine whether you may have legal options.

Texas Consumer Protection

What Texas Law Says About Solar Contracts

Texas recently strengthened its solar consumer-protection framework. Here are the three things every Texas homeowner should know:

01

You have a 5-business-day right to cancel

Texas Senate Bill 1036 — the Residential Solar Retailer Regulatory Act — took effect September 1, 2025.

Every residential solar contract signed on or after that date must include a 5-business-day cancellation right, with no penalty.

The law also requires plain-language disclosures and prohibits salespeople from claiming they're affiliated with a utility or government agency.

02

Your rights don't end at 5 days

The Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA), the Home Solicitation Transactions Act, and the federal Truth in Lending Act are not limited to a 5-day window.

Many of these protections also apply to contracts signed before SB 1036 took effect.

If your contract involved misleading savings claims, undisclosed terms, or pressure tactics, a qualified attorney may review your situation regardless of when you signed.

03

The Texas AG is actively investigating the industry

Attorney General Ken Paxton's April 2026 investigation is the largest state-level enforcement action against residential solar in Texas history.

The DTPA includes enhanced penalties when victims are 65 or older — a pattern specifically called out in SB 1036's legislative findings.

Texas Utility Context

Why the Savings Never Showed Up

Texas is unusual: most of the state runs on ERCOT's deregulated electricity market. Your delivery charges come from a utility (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, or Texas-New Mexico Power). Your rate comes from a retail electric provider you chose. Austin and San Antonio operate under their own municipal utilities.

Any solar savings projection you were shown was built on assumptions about all of those moving parts — and what they would do over the next 20 years.

01

Texas Utility Rates Continue Changing

In April 2026, the Public Utility Commission of Texas approved an Oncor rate increase adding roughly $7/month to a typical residential bill, with more increases expected.

CenterPoint has continued to add storm-hardening and hurricane-recovery charges across affected regions.

Average Texas residential electricity rates climbed about 5.75% year-over-year to approximately 15.87¢/kWh.

02

Why Solar Projections Often Miss

None of this means going solar was a bad idea.

It means the math you were shown was built on assumptions that didn't hold over time.

When those assumptions are wrong — or were misrepresented — the savings homeowners expected often disappear.

!

A Quick Note About Liens on Your Home

If you've been told the solar company filed a lien against your home — that's not what a UCC-1 financing statement does.

A UCC-1 is filed against the solar equipment itself, not against your home.

Many Texas homeowners are told otherwise in stressful sales or collection conversations. A qualified attorney can clarify what a UCC-1 actually does in your specific situation.

Texas Homeowner Questions

Common Questions From Texas Homeowners

Answers below are general information only and do not constitute legal advice. Documentation may be reviewed by a qualified law firm based on the facts of your specific situation.

I signed my contract before September 1, 2025. Am I out of luck?

No. SB 1036's 5-business-day cancellation right applies to contracts signed on or after September 1, 2025 — but the Texas DTPA, the Home Solicitation Transactions Act, and TILA are not limited by your contract date. Documentation may be reviewed by a qualified law firm regardless of when you signed.

My contract is with Sunrun, Freedom Forever, Lone Star Solar Services, or CAM Solar. What does the AG investigation mean for me?

On April 6, 2026, AG Paxton issued Civil Investigative Demands to all four companies under the Texas DTPA. If your contract is with one of these companies, your documentation may be reviewed by a qualified law firm to determine whether legal options may apply in your specific situation.

The investigation itself does not automatically affect your contract, but it indicates the kind of conduct regulators are actively scrutinizing.

Freedom Forever filed for bankruptcy. What happens to my system and contract?

Freedom Forever filed Chapter 11 on April 15, 2026. Installer bankruptcy affects your warranty, service, and potentially your contract obligations — and the specifics depend on the facts of your case.

Your documentation may be reviewed by a qualified law firm to evaluate your options.

My bills went up after installing solar. Is that grounds for review?

It may be. Recent Oncor and CenterPoint rate changes have shifted the savings math substantially from what was projected in earlier years.

If your sales pitch projected savings that didn't account for rising delivery charges or used incorrect rate assumptions, a qualified attorney may review whether this may be a potential issue.

Will canceling my contract hurt my credit? Should I stop paying?

EMS does not provide credit or payment guidance. Any decision to stop making payments on your solar agreement must only be considered under the advice and representation of a qualified attorney.

Stopping payments without legal guidance can have serious credit and legal consequences.

What does this cost me?

Initial intake with EMS is free. If your documentation is accepted for legal review by Consumer Advocacy Law Group, you'll be presented with a fixed-fee engagement so your costs are clear upfront.

I live outside the major cities. Can I still submit?

Yes. EMS accepts intake from homeowners across Texas — Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Fort Worth, El Paso, and smaller communities.

Submit through the form or call 888-918-2083.
